We can learn from the past but other than that, it is kind of useless to dwell on, unless it serves to give us a more fulfilling and meaningful present. And the best way to affect the future is by being present and conscious in the now.

Great tennis players know this. The great ones are able to let the last point go and focus on the present point in a match. This will ensure that the future is as desirable as it can be.

Is it all an illusion? That is an excellent question, and one that we will likely not know the answer to until we are no longer walking this earth. Then it may become clearer, while life on earth will go on much like it did on our last day. We will be remembered, but not for that long. Life here is for the living.
